Before your vasectomy
When you schedule your vasectomy with Cutting Edge Vasectomy, you will receive a confirmation email along with documents for informed consent and our aftercare protocol.
Please review these documents and bring them with you on the day of your vasectomy.
There are a few things you should do before your vasectomy:
Fill out our secure & confidential patient intake form included in your confirmation email at the time of booking.
Place a HotHands Warm pack between your scrotum and snug underwear 1 hour before the procedure, and wear it to the appointment. This will help relax the scrotum, and make the procedure more comfortable.
Shave the front of your scrotum a day or so before the procedure.
Wear snug underwear or a jock strap to your procedure. Do not wear boxers.
Shower and eat before your vasectomy.
Avoid NSAIDS for (5) five days before the procedure. Avoid alcohol for 48 hours before and after the procedure.
Take your prescription medications. If you are taking prescription blood thinners, you will need to stop these, as directed by your physician.
Most men drive themselves home after the procedure. If you have a history of fainting or becoming light headed during medical procedures, you’ll want to have a driver.
After your vasectomy
When you schedule your procedure with Cutting Edge Vasectomy, you will receive detailed post-vasectomy expectations, management, and instructions. We will also provide you another copy on the day of your procedure. Additionally, you’ll be provided with Dr. Tuczynski’s cell phone number. Feel free to text or call if you have any questions as you recover.
First 24 hours: Drive straight home after the procedure. Relax either in a reclined chair or a bed. Avoid standing and straining.
Pain: Most men rate the pain as minimal by the day following a Cutting Edge Vasectomy. In fact, sometimes the pain is so minimal that men are ready to get back to lifting weights, working on the truck, and chasing their woman – please follow the aftercare instructions provided to you.
Prescriptions: A Cutting Edge Vasectomy is so minimally invasive, that we do not require prophylactic antibiotics. Our patients do not need prescription pain medications after vasectomy.
Work: If you have a desk job, you may return the next day. If your job requires lots of walking and standing, wait 24 hours. If you do manual labor (construction, lifting or pulling) we recommend waiting 48 hours.
Shower: Wait 24 hours.
Exercise: Generally, 72 hours. Please refer to your aftercare instructions for details based on the type of workouts you do.
Sex: We recommend waiting seven (7) days before sex or ejaculation.
Alcohol: No drinking for the first 48 hours after your procedure.
Semen Analysis
Private & Convenient
Semen testing is completed to ensure your vasectomy was successful. You must wait 12 weeks and 20 ejaculations before completing your test.
We’ve eliminated the awkward specimen hand-offs at the doctor’s office. We highly encourage a semen test twelve weeks after the procedure. We have negotiated a special rate with a certified laboratory for $50 per test. You will not pay this fee to us; you pay the testing fee to the lab.
12 weeks after your vasectomy, you may order a kit from the lab that will be mailed to you. Follow the instructions to collect your sample at home and drop off the pre-paid box in your mailbox or USPS office. Once your sample is processed, you will be contacted with the results.
What If I have questions or concerns after my vasectomy?
All Cutting Edge Vasectomy patients will be given Dr. Tuczynski’s cell phone number after having the procedure. If anything should come up, he is here for you. Most issues can be handled by talking to the doctor.
